Our Portal North photography competition
drew entries from seasoned photographers
and holiday snappers alike, spanning an
incredible array of locations worldwide
I LOVE FINDING BEAUTY
An expert panel of judges including photographers,
IN UNEXPECTED PLACES
journalists and designers cast their votes to determine
the winner.
The standard was exceptionally high, with pictures
conveying many different stories, but the judges were
unanimous when it came to the winning image.
Taken in Iceland by Kat Install, of Stockport, Greater
Manchester, the photograph of Hvitserkur was
universally praised.
The judges said: “We love that the photographer
included a person in this shot to show the scale of the
rocks, and the re昀氀ection adds an extra element.”

Winner Kat said: “I love 昀椀nding beauty in ordinary
items and unexpected places. In Hvitserkur, the path
down to the beach was a bit steep and slippery so I
nearly turned back. When this came into view, I was so
glad I didn't.”
