In second place was a photograph
of Greenland, by Emma Adams
from Ripon, North Yorkshire.
The judges admired its movie-like
feel and praised how the people
demonstrated the scale of the ice.
Emma explained: “I’m driven
by a desire to preserve and
share memories, as well as
provoking thoughts on different
perspectives. To me, this image
represents the contrasting scale
of people compared to the world
around us.“

Third place went to Kevin Croft
from the North East of England
with The Abandoned Boat.
Taken at Protoras on the coast
of Cyprus, the judges loved
the sense of peacefulness and
tranquillity conveyed, making
particular reference to the lights
from the cloud.
“My passion for photography
is mainly in landscape and
seascape,“ explained Kevin.
“This image to me portrays
calmness, yet that can change in
an instant, as with the cloud in
what was a clear blue sky.”

The Captivating City of Bergen
(left) was taken in Norway by Gill
Marlton from Bolton, Lancashire.
The Star Chaser (featured on page
10) was taken in Inner Mongolia by
Shaun Shaji John from Merseyside.
Our photography competition
