Menorca is Majorca’s quieter neighbour. Known for its
calm turquoise waters, unspoilt beaches and status
as a protected UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, you don’t
have to travel far to 昀椀nd natural beauty.
Formentera is perhaps the most tranquil island in the
Balearics, accessible only by ferry from Ibiza.
Mahón is the bustling capital, characterised by its
Georgian architecture and pretty harbour, with lively
markets selling seafood and the famed Mahón cheese.
But for those seeking something more remote,
Menorca’s south coast offers some of the island’s most
beautiful white sandy beaches. Son Bou and Binibeca
are both beautiful and lined with pine trees for a
distinctly Mediterranean feel.
Wild昀椀tness on the south coast offer an immersive
retreat in an 18th-century farmhouse, while the nearby
agrotourism hotel Menorca Experimental focuses on
yoga and luxurious spa treatments.
Getting there: Fly to Mahón Airport from the UK. The
south coast is around a half-hour drive.
The northeastern coast, where the ferry docks, and
the beach bars around Es Pujols and Ses Illetes pull
in crowds through the summer but you don’t have to
travel far across this tiny island to 昀椀nd peace.
Es Caló de Sant Agustí is a small 昀椀shing village
offering authentic seafood restaurants and a slower
pace, while Cap de Barbaria, at the southernmost
point, features a more rugged coastline with a
famous lighthouse.
Looking for laidback bars, or chiringuitos, for
sundowners? Head to Playa de Mi最樀orn on the south
coast, a vast sandy beach that rarely gets crowded,
even in high season.
Like neighbouring Ibiza, there’s a strong focus on
yoga on the island, with beach club hotels like Gecko
offering sunrise and sunset classes.
Getting there: Fly to Ibiza Airport from the UK. The Port
of Ibiza is about 20 minutes by car or shuttle bus
and fast ferries to Formentera take around half
an hour.
