Buena Vista’s open-air drinking den is almost
worth the transatlantic 昀氀ight alone.
Lush hotel gardens provide a scenic foreground
at this retreat-style lodge but the real wow factor
comes from a view across 138 sq km of treelined
foothills, vegetation rich mountainsides and dense
jungle beyond.
It’s the only way to cool off after exploring Costa
Rica’s Rincon de la Vieja National Park.
Expect: One of Central America’s best sunsets seen
from the summit and very happy staff.

treasure tucked away near the hippy market in
Es Canar. It’s not easy to 昀椀nd but that’s part of its
charm. The drinks list is without pretension and
great value – a pint (or jarra) of beer is just €5.20.
